Montauk Beach House Pool Party and Milly Resort 2014 Fashion Presentation

DSC00388

Last weekend I got plenty of sun in the nearly 100 degree weather at the Montauk Beach House. Michelle Smith showed her Milly Resort 2014 Collection in a beautiful fashion presentation by the pool, part of a summer-long music and fashion series hosted by the Montauk Beach House. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and last weekend, I was on the beach or by the pool for 80% of the time!

Singer-songwriter Natalia Kills performed and we enjoyed great drinks and music all Saturday afternoon. I just loved the bright, bold colors in the collection, not to mention that much of it looked really comfortable. Artwork seemed to influence Milly as some of the fabric seemed painted like that on the model above. Crop tops kept cropping up in Milly’s Resort 2014 Collection as well. I don’t think they’re going anywhere.

I wore a pink neon Eres itty-bitty bikini along with an exclusive purple hat from couture milliner Ellen Christine’s Spring 2014 Collection. By the way, if you want a couture hat of your own, she’s giving a 10% discount to blog readers. Just call her showroom and mention the blog.

While there I met a few from the Milly team, spotted some great poolside fashion and ran into Cannon Hodge of Bergdorf Goodman. She and her friend were wearing amazing kaftans from Camilla Franks that should be available at Bergdorfs in a few months. She showed me that this particular kaftan could be tied multiple ways for a causal or dressy look. Looks like it will be available soon at BG for about $500 or so.

Milly’s collection isn’t quite available yet but for some of the looks here, check out my Summer is in the Air Collection or Shopbop’s Best of Summer 2013.

Wear These Blockbuster Premiere Charlotte Olympia Sandals on Your Next Movie Date

charlotte-olympia-blockbuster-print-blockbuster-premiere-sandal-product-1-11838958-747448479

You might think they’re borderline cheesy but even if so, you’ve got to give it to Charlotte Olympia for her creativity with shoes! I really appreciate her tendency to think outside of the box and do something different.

I think these are great shoes for a summer movie date. Perhaps with some nice blue jeans (Nordstrom has a bunch on sale) and a blazer like this Helmut Lang Smoking Tux Blazer . Or a little black dress like this one from BCBG or this Blaque Label dress. Try these for an original look.

They’re available now at ModaOperandi for $845.

Sincerely,

Black and White at the DKNY Store for Iris Smyle’s New Book Signing and OCRF Benefit

DKNY hosts Iris Smyles Book signing, Malinda KnowlesDKNY hosts Iris Smyles Book signing, Malinda Knowles

Tuesday I dashed in the rain to the midtown DKNY store for Iris Smyle’s Iris Has Free Time book signing and Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) Fundraiser. DKNY sent a percentage of sales proceeds to OCRF and provided some great champagne to top it off. Iris Has Free Time is about growing up and can we please applaud the cover photo? Just loving the blue tutu!

I was wearing my white leather Vince jacket (on sale at Shopbop), a vegan black leather skirt from Guess (similar here), vintage Christian Louboutin heels and this amazing hat at the DKNY store. The store was full of some really great summer outfits and some of the best sneaker heels in town! I spotted the black version of the sneaker heels that I had blogged about last year and found a white pair I hadn’t seen before (pictured below).

Cute New Shoes at The FFANY Shoe Show 2013

DSC00075_malindaknowlesnet
This week I attended the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) Shoe Show 2013 in midtown and was in shoe heaven! There were plenty of shoes from over a hundred brands and the suggested retail price for many of them were well within reason. New York showrooms were open this week for market as well.  Shoe lovers, get in here!

NYLA Orange Spiked Sandal_FFANY_MalindaKnowlesnetDSC00068

I whirled through three floors of shoes and my favorite and the funkiest shoe was from J.C. Dossier. But as these shoes are not on the market yet and knock-off brands are rampant, I won’t be able to share them with you. I can tell you, however, that they were some of the most creative, kooky and colorful wedge heels I’ve ever seen! They will be in stores soon. Apart from those, I adored a pair of Kiss & Tell blue ruffled booties (pictured below), a pair of NYLA orange spiked sandals (above), and several from Six London (may have photos soon).

I also ran into Ivy Reyes of Luichi NY, a fellow FITer, who showed me some new dark blue python shoes (below) with a high-backing, apparently a big trend for the upcoming season.  London Trash also had several shoes with a high-back (pictured below).

Wedge sneakers, spikes, high-rising heels (like London Trash above) and sequins seemed to be dominant trends at the Show.

The most innovative pair of shoes were from Cassandra Droogan of Protect Your Shoes In Style (PYSIS). She created a pair of boots that will go over your expensive pair of heels if you happen to be out in unfavorable weather conditions. Seems like a solution to me, instead of trying to change shoes all the time. I did not try them on but Cassandra modeled them below.

I also ran into Melissa Tierney, FFANY Social Media Chair and Creator of Look 4 Less, a page about putting a look together on a budget. I was struck by Melissa’s necklace and pretty blouse who told me she got them from Target and H & M for about five dollars. I was wearing a white leather and linen Vince jacket, blue Kelly Wearstler skirt, my Giuseppe Zanotti pumps and a white blouse from H &M.

Loved Working in this Helmut Lang Suiting on My Birthday This Week

Photo of Malinda KnowlesPhoto of Malinda Knowles

So it was a very long day but I still enjoyed my birthday this week! I worked all day, attended the Fashion Group International’s Ready to Wear Trend Presentation, got a mani and pedi at Bliss Spa and then shot to class at night. Despite the hectic schedule, I managed to enjoy my birthday thoroughly and it didn’t hurt that I was wearing some beautiful Helmut Lang harem suiting pants, a beautiful Helmut Lang off white with a tinge of orange blouse and an amazing bra that took the cake for design ingenuity! Thank you Helmut Lang, it was incredible to wear all day.

My Helmut Lang Work Outfit

I love clothes that are professional with an edge to break the monotony of the every day grey shift dress and black heels. Yes, unfortunately it is not quite ‘hot’ in New York City yet but Springtime is definitely here and I absolutely adore this ensemble from Helmut Lang. If you have a fairly see through top, pair it with this well-designed razer back Helmut Lang bra to have a different ‘bra strap’ effect. They also have a great dress with the same color story and some amazing exclusive runway shoes for sale that I have my eye on (shown above). I’m just loving the Spring Collection!

Leather Leggings and Chain Boots at Chanel Paris Fashion Week Fall 2013 Show

CHANEL

So, I just love the leather leggings and chain boots at the Paris Fashion Week Chanel Fall 2013 Runway Show. Chanel’s show was about the only one I have seen full of black, white and grey that completely compelled me. I always say that I only respect a fellow designer that inspires us with ingenuity or innovation. For a 100-year-old brand, we expect the best from Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld delivered this week. Check out close up photos of the white and black leather legging and chair boot below.

Wear These Art Deco-Looking Christian Louboutin Shoes in Miami This Weekend

These Christian Louboutin shoes from the Resort Collection would look great in the colorful art deco background of Miami this weekend! They’re also perfect for showing off a good coral pedicure.

Pair them with simple white jeans like these J Brand Skinny White Jeans on sale for $112 or this Alexander McQueen ivory cape-back dress below.

Wearable Art Inspiration: Charlotte Olympia’s Hand-Painted Shoes at Art Basel Miami Beach

Part of being an artist is seeing beauty in the unconventional just like Alexander McQueen says in his quote. For those of you who have just started following, I am beginning to develop concepts for my own fashion brand inspired by my artwork. Eventually I’ll have all of my artwork up here for you to view, but in the meantime you can view a partial showing of one of my pieces here.

In any case, I am annoyed that I am back in New York early from Thanksgiving (because of class and work) and not in Florida. But, like I said a few weeks ago, if you can, get down to Miami this weekend for Art Basel!

Charlotte Olympia has teamed with contemporary artist Boyarde to hand-paint shoes that feature famous works of art from artists such as Mondrian, Pollock, Picasso and more. She will be debuting the heels this weekend at Art Basel Miami and the limited-edition heels will only be available for sale at Neiman Marcus in Bal Harbor, FL. Check out a few of them below.
