So while in Miami this week I stumbled upon a beautiful mural of a woman’s face with flowers in her hair at this hole in the wall café. Forgive me I forgot to take note of the name of the spot but it was a café neatly nestled in between some of the fabric stores downtown. I was in complete awe of the painting and have to say that every time I go to Miami I find some amazing artwork. What do you think?
This weekend I went down to Miami for Art Basel Miami Beach. It was an amazing show full of beautiful paintings, sculptures, champagne and even oysters. I wore a grey Alexander Wang dress(similar here), my grey Alexander Wang handbag (similar and on sale here) and vintage grey Lanvin metallic sneakers. It was cool down in Miami this weekend so I also wore my Veda leather jacket while outside.
If you love art and haven’t seen my artwork, click here. Prints are available for purchase if you fall in love with any of them. Maybe next year I will show with a gallery. Anyway, check out more great artwork from Art Basel below!
The walk to the beach is full of suspense and beautiful foliage. You just can’t wait to get there and if it’s a gorgeous day, it may look something like this. I took a photo of this scenery and loved it so much, I did a painting. Walk to the beach.
Florida has been so beautiful and the weather is perfect. I was inspired by a beautiful photo of a sunset I took last year in Florida. A parking lot? Yes, a parking lot. I had so much fun painting the palm trees.
As the weather starts to turn to winter, I am reminiscent of this past summer. And I am already looking forward to Spring 2016.
After having finished FIT, I’ve been on the grind working on some special projects including new artwork and fashion sketches. Art has been my therapy for years. I can get lost with a brush and some color.
Speaking of artwork, we’ve got some great prints that would make fabulous holiday gifts. We can also take your favorite print and make pillows, coffee mugs and other items. Head over to the artwork shop and inquire within for more info!
So this week Kanye West gave Kim Kardashian a George Condo hand-painted Hermes Birkin bag for Christmas and Kim showed it off on a shopping trip. Condo did the artwork for my favorite Kanye album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. June Ambrose photoshopped a photo of her with a George Condo painted Birkin on Instagram to generate chatter. Needless to say the art world has officially infiltrated fashion. And, well, although I like the provocative artwork on Kanye’s album cover, I can’t say the same about the Birkins. It just doesn’t do it for me. What do you think?
I finally posted more of my artwork on the blog! Check it out now. More artwork will be coming and prints will be available so make sure to bookmark the ones that you really love!
This past weekend I took photos with my Songs of Freedom painting and got into a ‘blue’ spirit with sequined shorts from English Rose. I got them from Natre, an amazing, moderately priced boutique in Soho (thank you Natre)! Anyway, I just love the shorts. They’re great for a not-so-casual day or girl’s night out. They’re very comfortable too. I paired them with a black silk top and glitzy accessories and a chunky ring.
Last weekend I got plenty of sun in the nearly 100 degree weather at the Montauk Beach House. Michelle Smith showed her MillyResort 2014 Collection in a beautiful fashion presentation by the pool, part of a summer-long music and fashion series hosted by the Montauk Beach House. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and last weekend, I was on the beach or by the pool for 80% of the time!
Singer-songwriter Natalia Kills performed and we enjoyed great drinks and music all Saturday afternoon. I just loved the bright, bold colors in the collection, not to mention that much of it looked really comfortable. Artwork seemed to influence Milly as some of the fabric seemed painted like that on the model above. Crop tops kept cropping up in Milly’s Resort 2014 Collection as well. I don’t think they’re going anywhere.
I wore a pink neon Eresitty-bitty bikini along with an exclusive purple hat from couture millinerEllen Christine’s Spring 2014 Collection. By the way, if you want a couture hat of your own, she’s giving a 10% discount to blog readers. Just call her showroom and mention the blog.
While there I met a few from the Milly team, spotted some great poolside fashion and ran into Cannon Hodge of Bergdorf Goodman. She and her friend were wearing amazing kaftans from Camilla Franks that should be available at Bergdorfs in a few months. She showed me that this particular kaftan could be tied multiple ways for a causal or dressy look. Looks like it will be available soon at BG for about $500 or so.
According to Business of Fashion, developer Craig Robins’ Miami Design District is growing at a rapid pace. Artists, interior designers, architects, and luxury good stores have clustered in the neighborhood. The feel of Miami, everlasting impact of Cuban and Latin American culture, as well as the artwork are shaping the character of this new district and business is experiencing success. Real Estate professional Zendell stated that “…before, Miami was a place to unload your summer gear, now even cashmere sells in Miami.”
I thought it was particularly interesting that artwork and even graffiti seem to permeate the area. Street artist Retna covered the Louis Vuitton store graffiti-style and the brand has marketed graffiti-covered merchandise as well. Robins states that “when you come here there will be a lot of art, anchored by the Rosa de la Cruz collection and my own collection.” Robins is an avid supporter and collector of the arts. He is Founder and Chairman of the Anaphiel Foundation, member of the Board of Trustees of the Miami Art Museum, and Principal of Art Basel Miami. Over 100 brands are expected to have locations in the District by the end of 2015, and I am very excited to see the area develop.
