International Herald Tribune Luxury Conference 2012: The Promise of Africa, The Power of the Mediterranean

The International Herald Tribune Luxury Conference started this past Wednesday and ends today. Since 2001, it is the annual forum for business and creative leaders throughout the global luxury goods industry. Suzy Menkes, IHT’s Fashion Editor hosts the annual conference and attracts all the top talent in the world.

This year they talked mostly about economic development and fashion in the Mediterranean and throughout Africa. This year’s speakers included Omoyemi Akerele, Creative Director and Founder of Style House Files, a Fashion Creative Development Agency in Nigeria and Manolo Blahnik, one of the world’s most influential shoe designers. I’m glad the Conference is talking about cultures that aren’t always in the limelight.

Me and Leather this Fall 2012

So, leather has always been around but this season I’ve particularly taken notice. I’m absolutely loving the trend and even the colorful leather designs!

The other day I wore this Theory Feria Danish Leather fall 2012 dress to Saks Furla Event. The top consists of 100% white lambskin and the bottom is black leather.

 

Beyonce was rocking the leather trend the other day with Rag and Bone black and white leather skinny jeans and a Helmut Lang blazer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now, I’m ready to find some colored leather looks like these two Dsquared Fall/Winter 2012 below.

This Gold Skirt at Dolce and Gabbana

Was on the Upper East Side yesterday… and wandered into the Dolce and Gabbana store. It felt like I was throwing myself back to some kind of modern roman society with kings, knights and princesses. But I found some great stuff nonetheless!

This beautiful sequined gold skirt stood out in regality and completely caught my attention right away. It was paired with an amazing white blouse and let me tell you, this is for that woman that wants all eyes on her with her first step in the room!

Michelle Obama: Fashion Icon, A Tribute To The Last Four Years of Style

Greetings folks!

Today is election day and I hope each and every one of you goes out and votes! Whether by email, going to the poll or finding an “army” truck in NJ to make it happen- just make sure you vote today!

I’d like to pay a tribute to the last four years of Michelle Obama’s style. It seems that we haven’t paid this much attention to what our First Lady is wearing  since Jackie Kennedy Onassis was in the White House!

Our economy was a sinking ship before Obama took office and it has seemed to stabilize a bit with GDP and the DJIA up a bit since the market crash of 2009. However, things are still pretty rough.

According to the Harvard Business Review, Professor David Yermack of NYU’s Stern School found that following public appearances between 2008-2009, Michelle Obama created $2.7 billion in cumulative abnormal returns for fashion and retail companies associated with what she wore.

Professor Yermack also states brands chosen by Obama gain about 2.3% in value which by the way, is more than Sarah Jessica Parker at about .5%.

VOGUE Bambini Fashion Show: NYC Petite Parade 2012

This weekend the hottest designer fashion for kids hit the runway at the VOGUE Bambini Fashion Show also known as the Petite Parade.

Beautiful kids handpicked by the children’s fashion magazine strutted their stuff downtown at Industria Superstudio near the MeatPacking District. The show featured designs for children by Olivia Rose, Caramel Baby & Child and Lilly Pulitzer and more.

They were adorable!

I had an amazing evening at Crier PR’s beauty event inside the Penthouse of the Royalton Hotel.

I met Manna Kadar, creator of Manna Kadar Cosmetics who made my eyes glow and lips shimmer.

I loved the penthouse balcony and the goody bag filled with so many products. I can’t wait to try them all!

Love the way the New York skyline is the perfect backdrop for my Lipsy London dress and Giuseppe Zanotti blue pumps. And speaking of backdrop, for a panty-free line in a fitted dress, make sure you slip into some thong underwear. One of my favorites is by Hanky Panky, available at Bloomingdale’s.
