Five Fave Looks from the Met Gala 2023

Salma Hayek

Last night’s Met Gala red carpet did not disappoint! Many came dressed in black and white ensembles to honor the late Karl Lagerfeld but others like Salma Hayek above wore bright, fierce colors. I just loved Salma Hayek’s red Gucci dress and think she was definitely among the best dressed on the red carpet last night.

Gigi Hadid donned a gorgeous, custom-made Givenchy dress that was just jaw-dropping. These two looks along with Rihanna’s Valentino number, Janelle Monae’s Thom Browne outfit and Sydney Sweeney’s Miu Miu were among my favorites of the night. Scroll down to see more of these beautiful dresses.

Meghan Markle in Givenchy for Royal Wedding

So it’s official ladies and gentleman! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have gotten married y’all! And it was a royal wedding with a Black American twist all the way from Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir to Michael Curry to Sheku Kanneh-Mason! It was definitely not lost on us that Meghan Markle, the new Duchess of Sussex, is African-American. In any case, Meghan Markle wore Givenchy for her big day along with the Order of Splendor tiara loaned by the Queen. I have to say I was a little bit underwhelmed by her choice of dress but I guess she had to keep it conservative. I must say though the cut on the dress was perfection. It fit Meghan’s frame perfectly. Here’s to the new couple!

Coterie Spring 2016

Zac Posen

I have to say that I was a little disappointed in what I found this year at ENK Coterie for Spring 2016. There wasn’t that much to choose from or of interest. The shows were cool but let’s be frank, some of the best we saw from New York Fashion Week was the Givenchy show. Anyway, I did stumble upon some cute finds, saw lots of color and sequins (everywhere). Sequins and fringe. That’s definitely going to be big for next year’s spring season.

I also came across Chiara Ferragni’s new shoe collection. It’s very colorful and playful. Some it was a bit too loud for me. Cupcakes and Cashmere launched a new clothing line for Spring 2016. I had no idea she was doing clothing but guess so. I couldn’t get photos though because they hadn’t been released yet but these samples were really cool.

Take a look at what I found!

Fave Looks So Far from New York Fashion Week SS 2016 (And Givenchy! *Swoon*)

Tanya Taylor

These have to be some of my favorite looks so far from the New York Fashion Week Spring 2016 shows. I’ve seen lots of pink, blue, sequins and feathers on the runway and am just loving it. Tanya Taylor had an amazing show and the shoes were to die for! I have to say though Givenchy (watch it here) had to be my favorite show thus far. I feel bad for the model that really fell and bloodied herself but it  didn’t stop a thing. The face makeup, jewelry and craftmanship that Givenchy displayed was just out of this world. Take a look at the show below if you haven’t seen it already and what do you think of the season so far?

Face Masks Could Keep Us Warm in the Winter

freaky-fashion-paris-fall-winter-2012-martin-margiela-the-flying-tortoise

Being that we’re having one of the roughest winters in the city for the past few years, face masks could actually be the thing to keep us warm. When the Polar Vortex hit and it was about 9 degrees with a wind chill of -20, I saw many people trying to cover their faces with a scarf or pull down a hood. But, let’s face it. Our faces were cold. According to Daily Mail UK and other reports, Chinese women have worn face masks for years to protect themselves from the sun. Supposedly for them it’s about status and skin color. But, what if it was simply a fashion statement?

givenchybeautyGivenchy and Martin Maison Margiela have debuted these interesting looks on the runway and like it or not, face masks have to be one of the most creative trends we’ve seen in the past few years. Kanye West wore face masks on his Yeezus concert tour. He is never one to shy away from a new trend but hey, would you try it? Assuming you can see through them, they stretch and are somewhat comfortable, face masks might be a new way to go. And, if they can keep us warm in 20 below Polar Vortex wind chill factors, why not?

More Funky Street Style, Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s Exhibition Punk: Chaos to Couture

punkmodamohawkrippedsweater

So I am so excited that this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s Exhibition entitled Punk: Chaos to Couture is all about punk and funky street style. I’ve blogged about funky street style almost all year; New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013Versace’s Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013, and even created an amazing set of mix and match items for your every day (or night) funky street style. The punk and grunge look is what is now and if it’s not your style, you should try a piece or two and see what it feels like! If anything you can try a nice biker leather jacket or vest like the one I wore here.

hermesgraffitihandbag_malindaknowlesnetI can’t wait to see what everyone wears at the Met Gala this coming May 6ModaOperandi will be live streaming the red carpet at 7 PM. They are also giving our readers the opportunity to pre-order looks straight off the red carpet from Anthony Vacarello, Balmain, Delpozo, Rodarte, Nina Ricci and Wes Gordon on May 7. I will be live tweeting and running around the city as usual. Get excited and check out Exclusive Punk Collection, I’m kind of loving these mohawk headpieces and Hermes‘ attempt at the graffiti trend with their new Kelly bag. They even etched “New York City” on there for us locals and NYC lovers.
