Five Fave Looks from the Met Gala 2023

Salma Hayek

Last night’s Met Gala red carpet did not disappoint! Many came dressed in black and white ensembles to honor the late Karl Lagerfeld but others like Salma Hayek above wore bright, fierce colors. I just loved Salma Hayek’s red Gucci dress and think she was definitely among the best dressed on the red carpet last night.

Gigi Hadid donned a gorgeous, custom-made Givenchy dress that was just jaw-dropping. These two looks along with Rihanna’s Valentino number, Janelle Monae’s Thom Browne outfit and Sydney Sweeney’s Miu Miu were among my favorites of the night. Scroll down to see more of these beautiful dresses.

Cooling Out

TGIF! I’ve been cooling out and going through old clothes and things getting ready for fashion month. How are y’all doing? The Florida sunset is just gorgeous- I can’t help but take photos. This Gucci top has lasted me well and I remix it with jeans and even my gold pleated skirt (similar here). The beginning of the year is a great time to strategize and regroup, even if it means giving away clothes. I admit to having a nice wardrobe and always feeling like I do not have anything to wear. Do y’all suffer from this problem too? By the way, Farfetch is having a sale…enjoy!

Sincerely,

Holiday Bling: Beyoncé Knowles-Carter wears Gucci’s Aria Collection

So the Holidays are upon us. Happy Holidays! Covid-19 is still trying to kick our butts. But we must persevere and enjoy the gift of life in some way. Gucci’s Aria Collection, a collaboration with Balenciaga, looks great on Beyoncé Knowles-Carter in her latest Instagram post. In particular, Nordstrom has a rhinestone version of the Kenley Sandal from Steve Madden that I wore here. It seems that the look is sold out but below you can find some pieces that may do the trick at your next holiday gathering.

Black Leather Remix 2

Happy Tuesday folks! So recently I was unfortunately looking to wear all black for a memorial and pulled out some of my black leather items. Believe it or not, winter descended upon South Florida. Black leather not only keeps you warm but it can be very stylish. And, you can mix them up as they make great classic pieces. I wore a Bailey 44 top (similar CAMI NYC Camisole here) and a vintage Catherine Malandrino skirt (similar pencil skirt on sale here) with Jessica Simpson heels. For a little drama, you can always pair a black leather look with a big black hat (similar Gucci hat here) as seen below.

Gucci Mystic Cat T-Shirt

While some are dealing with snow, I’ve been enjoying sunny South Florida. While there is definitely not as much to do as New York (and I definitely miss the city sometimes), I welcome the change of pace. Palm Beach is really beautiful and there’s nothing like a good t-shirt and jeans combo when to hang around town. I saw this Gucci Mystic Cat T-shirt on FARFETCH and the sequined cat just got me. I absolutely love this shirt and they go great with my Zara ripped jeans (similar here) and blue Marc Jacobs handbag. The shirt is actually sold out but there’s several other cute ones.

I also wore this interlaced Gucci ring that I adore as well- a pineapple, a monkey and an emerald. Check out photos of the ring and more below and if you’re up north, consider a trip to sunny Florida for a break!

So Fall is right around the corner whether you like it or not. And this cute Alexis Orchid Marisa Midi Dress is available for pre-order from ModaOperandi. It reminds me of Gucci a bit but it’s not. I think it’s just dreamy. Pair it with over the knee Santoni black boots and you are ready to make a strong statement.

Romantic lace is a big trend for Fall 2016 and see-through fabric is definitely here to stay for some time. Get excited for Fall and while you’re shopping, make sure to check out this pre-fall shoe edit here.

How Socially Responsible is “Socially Responsible,” Really?

1944
So, in light of recent events like 385 people dying in a poorly run Bangladesh factory collapse and the unrest that has resulted, I ask myself how socially responsible is socially responsible really?

bangladesh

Lots of manufacturing companies these days want to call themselves socially responsible but are they really? Now we all understand that everyone is in business to make a profit. Popular consensus is that being “socially responsible” or “green” doesn’t always mix with running a profitable company, but I would have to disagree. Arthur Caplan, chair of the University of Pennsylvania’s medical ethics department says that “fashion companies had better be pretty green and socially conscious, because they’re very much about image,   …they’re selling products that induce guilt. Who needs all that high-end stuff? You’d better do what you can to make it guilt-free.”

GreenConsumers and shoppers are becoming more and more educated, aware, and even skeptical of so-called “organic” anything or “green” companies. For this reason, it is imperative that companies create policies and stick to them. According to University of Missouri 2011 research, consumers are willing to pay an extra 15 to 20 percent for truly socially responsible or “green” products so it just may be in company’s best interests to change their practices.

Most of us have seen the issues that some companies have had with their consumption of water and fertilizer in cotton production, chemical processing at plants, airway and environmental pollution, worker safety problems like the disaster in Bangladesh, and fair wage and child labor exploitation. So what to do about it? When shopping in-store or online, check the label for where the product was manufactured, its fiber content and also look for the brand’s information on their code of conduct or social responsibility policy. Most companies employing socially responsible international policies publicize the information and post it on their websites such as J.Crew and the PPR Group (Gucci, Balenciaga, McQueen, etc).

Yours,
