Last week I also caught some of Nolcha Fashion Week. It was a frenzy backstage but as usual everything came together beautifully. I really liked designs by Christian Benner, Leka, and L Catherine London. I love a good statement jacket and Christian Benner and Leka’s biker jackets scream New York City. I was also able to catch up with Christian Benner later and get a closer look at his jackets which have full rock star status. See more photos below!
With the snow being such a mess and this winter being so cold, I wanted to be comfortable even for New York Fashion Week. I wore my Spring 2014 sequined Ashish sweatpants(NEW SPRING 15 VERSION HERE) and my Michael Kors sweatshirt in a very loose outfit for Nolcha and Hernan Lander shows. I just loved these sweatpants. Want to know why? Well, for one, it is a sweatshirt/sweatpant combo, both super soft and easy to wear! Secondly, sequins just make everything better. Not to mention, they are very big on the Fall 2014 runways. We’ve seen sequins bedazzling the runway from Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Tom Ford and more.
Speaking of comfort, have you entered my winter comfort GIVEAWAY? Only a few days left! I am all about being comfortable and stylish in this horrible winter we are having. Don’t forget to enter and check out more photos of my outfit and favorites from the Hernan Lander show below!
This week Tracy Reese showed her Fall 2014 Collection full of feathers, sequins, fuzzy fabric and chunky sweaters. It was my kind of comfortable clothing collection. The move to comfort is here to stay in fashion guys. I don’t know if it’s the horrible winter weather we’ve experienced or what but relaxed clothing with a bit of shimmer is what to wear for the winter. Hey, like Marc Jacobs says, happy days are here again.

My random fashion thought for 2013. So what year do you predict plus-size fashion will be considered somewhat mainstream fashion? 2040? 2050?
On the heels of 2014 and another year passed, I reflected today on what will be the future of the fashion industry. Online trade shows, market weeks and incoming fashion for ‘curvy’ women? This year Paris held its first plus-size fashion week, Pulp Fashion Week, and New York Fashion Week debuted its first plus-size collection from Eden Miller. It felt like a small victory for the curves in the world and was kind of a ‘new’ thing for NYFW. So, when will plus-size fashion be considered mainstream? When will designers go up in size and possible have spin-off ‘curvy’ collections just as they do petite? I mean, the averageAmerican woman is a size 14 and many women complain about not being able to find fashionable clothing appropriate for their size.
This is quite the opportunity. But, as designers, are we really thinking about how a fabric might drape from a curvy arm or leg? If you read my Sketch Model Wasnt Skinny Enough post, you definitely saw that most of us fashion students aren’t trained to think about the plus size woman (or average American size)! It’s quite possibly insane but from the looks of it, the industry is starting to make some strides to change. So, I ask again, what year do you think we’ll see ‘plus-size’ as simply ‘average’ size?
At the Nolcha New York Fashion Week Media Lounge, several brands showcased their products and I zeroed in on handbags. I came across a gorgeous handbag from Marylai with a decorated handle, something I have not seen before. It went perfectly with my outfit as well as a yellow clutch from Medusa.
Dresses and lace came down the runway last week at Nolcha New York Fashion Week. I especially liked shows from Magdalena Adriane, Claire Farewell and Tess Johnson. Wasn’t able to catch some of the other shows but check them out here.
This weekend I attended the Samantha Black Spring 2014 Show at Holy Apostles which was sponsored by DivaGalsDaily. Samantha Black was recently on Project Runway and I met her backstage along with a few of the models. I also ran into Basketball Wives star Jennifer Williams who walked in the show, Tami Roman and Elise Neal. Other reality stars such as Emily B. and Ariane Davis came to support as well. See more photos of the fashion show below!
Last night was a frenzy in Brooklyn and Katy Perry bounced from the Barclays Center to the Brooklyn Bridge in a New York minute. She had the most interesting outfit of the VMAs had to be Katy Perry’s leopard butterfly dress and Roar grill on the red carpet last night. What did you think?
