I remember seeing this “No Photos Please” dress by Viktor and Wolf on the Spring Couture 2019 runway. The dresses made a fashion statement even without the literal statements on the dresses. What a way to do tulle! I just loved the look and the camera she carried was a great note to add to the look.

So black and white are a classic color combination. But who knew we would spot so much of the combo on the runway for the Fall/Winter 2019? While there has definitely been a good bit of color injected into the season, we’ve seen almost entire collections like Jeremy Scott feature the classic color combination. Paris Spring/Summer 2019 Couture Week is the stuff of creative dreams. I mean, perhaps couture does not sell as well as ready-to-wear but I hope couture never goes anywhere. And for those of you that scoff and say who would wear that?? Well, try going outside of your comfort zone sometimes and re-envisioning what you wear. It is 2019 after all.
Alexandre Vauthier’s PCW SS 19 runway show was absolutely amazing! From the bows to the animal print, I was just so inspired. Bows are actually a big thing on the runway this week. So it’s official ladies and gentleman! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have gotten married y’all! And it was a royal wedding with a Black American twist all the way from Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir to Michael Curry to Sheku Kanneh-Mason! It was definitely not lost on us that Meghan Markle, the new Duchess of Sussex, is African-American. In any case, Meghan Markle wore Givenchy for her big day along with the Order of Splendor tiara loaned by the Queen. I have to say I was a little bit underwhelmed by her choice of dress but I guess she had to keep it conservative. I must say though the cut on the dress was perfection. It fit Meghan’s frame perfectly. Here’s to the new couple!

Happy Monday everyone! Last week the Fashion Institute of Technology Future of Fashion Show took the runway in the Garment District and what great looks. I picked five of my favorites, a few of which received awards. Stacy Isaacs was a Critic Award Winner and Chaya Hoffman’s beautiful dress was the People’s Choice Award Winner. What are you doing for Mother’s Day? It’s May 13 for those that don’t know. And it’s coming up very soon! One of my favorite Mother’s Days was back in 2009 (pictured above). My grandmother, mother and I went to church early and then went to The Breakers Hotel (pictured below) for a fabulous fancy Mother’s Day brunch. Everything you could think of was there to eat plus a steady flow of unlimited mimosas. It was a day I’ll never forget. I lost my grandmother in 2010 and dream about her all the time. If you are lucky enough to still have your mother or grandmother enjoy the day!
And what better way to celebrate with a nice gift? Inspire her to stay active with a fitbit or go for a nice hat. It will definitely come in handy this summer. So I dreamed that I was in the land of Wakanda last night after getting excited about the new Black Panther movie. I had a home with corn fields and was the happiest woman ever! Anyway, last night Black Panther premiered in Hollywood and the fashion on the purple carpet was absolutely amazing. As a black woman I’m incredibly excited about this movie and can’t wait to see it.
I rarely talk about celebrities but I just had to mention some of the fashion on the purple carpet last night. Musicians Chloe and Halle were in attendance wearing Elisabetta Franchi while actress Lupita Nyong’o looked like African royalty wearing an Atelier Versace dress. Janeshia Adams-Ginyard stunned in a head to toe African inspired crop top, skirt and hat by Tamara Cobus while Angela Bassett wore a canary yellow Naeem Khan jumpsuit.

I recently attended the Struts Miami Fashion Show by DezignNation (founded by Aguy Smith) and was completely blown away by Project Runway finalist Laurence Basse’s designs as well as a few other local designers. I had never been to a ‘drive-in’ fashion show but it was actually kind of convenient because it was cool in Florida that night.
I wore my Catherine Malandrino leather pants (similar below), a Club Monaco sweater and my Steve Madden sneaker heels. The show was in a parking garage and featured designs from House of Roxy B., Over a Trillion Served and more. They also had wine and pies from Pink Pie available at the show as well.
