Art Murals in Downtown West Palm Beach

So I was boppin around downtown West Palm Beach and came across this outdoor lounge area. I’m just in awe of the art murals. They give a space so much dimension. I’m not sure if all of these murals were done by Amanda Valdes but she did do the “Day of the Dead” woman above. One of these days perhaps I will get around to doing an art mural myself. I’m loving them, how about you?

Captain Frank’s Seafood Market in Boynton

One of the best things about Florida is the fresh seafood. In New York, the good seafood restaurants usually had to outsource their seafood so I really appreciate it here in Florida. Yesterday I stopped by Captain Frank’s Seafood Market in Boynton Beach and was just taken by their decor. Not to mention the fresh fish. I grabbed some lobster cakes, crab cakes, escargot and white fish dip. Had some last night and it was awesome.

Do you like seafood? If so, where do you get it from?

DezignNation Struts Miami Drive-In Fashion Show

I recently attended the Struts Miami Fashion Show by DezignNation (founded by Aguy Smith) and was completely blown away by Project Runway finalist Laurence Basse’s designs as well as a few other local designers. I had never been to a ‘drive-in’ fashion show but it was actually kind of convenient because it was cool in Florida that night.

I wore my Catherine Malandrino leather pants (similar below), a Club Monaco sweater and my Steve Madden sneaker heels. The show was in a parking garage and featured designs from House of Roxy B., Over a Trillion Served and more. They also had wine and pies from Pink Pie available at the show as well.

Southern, Sweet Lemonade

IMG_0481

As I take in Beyoncé’s new project Lemonade, I find myself enjoying time in the South as well. South Florida may be tropical but if you really know it, it’s the “dirty South.” Lemonade speaks to me in that it is all about the plight of the black woman working and living in an unjust society. Love, marriage, babies it covers everything about womanhood- especially that of a black woman.

There’s nothing like the South to get you thinking about our nation’s history, the culture and the segregation. Although I’ve been frying conch fritters, I’ve been eating just as many collard greens. And with this new album, I’m just that much more proud to be from the South.

Last Dog Days of Summer: Natural on the Beach in Singer Island

MalindaSingerIsland

This past weekend I spent time with loved ones in my home state of Florida. I got some work done and some play too. The beach was gorgeous. I opted for a completely no-fuss natural look to enjoy the last dog days of summer. It’s always great to visit your hometown and feed your spirit with the love of family. I hope you’re soaking up some of the last rays of summer too and had a great weekend.

Summer is in the Air: Waves, Water and that Perfect Maxi Dress for a Hamptons Weekend

Malinda Knowles at beach in Florida
I was looking at some old Instagram photos of an amazing time I had on the beach last Memorial Day Weekend and decided to share a few. I just can’t wait for the weather to fully warm up in New York City and for a few Hamptons weekends. As an original native of Florida, I live for the beach (only the good ones though) and I adore cute summer sandals, hats, bikinis, maxi dresses and jumpers. As I finalize my summer plans and get out of these final exams at FIT, I am absolutely looking forward to summer this year! Instagram by Malinda Knowles, Jupiter Beach Florida

Here’s an old painting of a beach wave that I did some time ago but I’m challenging myself to do better than that and get a bit more depth and contour in the wave and ocean water. As I said before, all of my artwork should be up on the blog before the summer is over.

Anyway, I love a good maxi dress for the summer and spotted some new ones recently that seem great for that Florida or Hamptons summer vacation weekend. Check out a few below from Tibi, Roberto Cavalli, and Diane von Furstenberg. See even more summer wear here.
