Mariah Butterfly Bralette

How are you doing? So, recently I copped this Mariah Butterfly Bralette from Sammy B. designs as I’ve been her fan for years. It was actually sold out and I had to wait for it to come back into stock. But when it did, I was one of the first ones buying! Samantha Black is a Jamaican designer that lives and produces out of New York City. I went to one of her fashion shows and heard of her through Harlem Fashion Row

I never realized that racism was so rampant and horrible in the fashion industry until I got in it. I remember a teacher telling me while I was in school at the Fashion Institute of Technology that she would never support me because I am not white. And, most recently, I’ve been approached about lightening my skin and never reporting any wrongdoing by whites to the police. It’s really sad that we are still here as a society, but I love supporting my fellow black designers like Samantha Black.

If you want to support more black designers, check out Nordstrom where they partnered with Harlem Fashion Row recently.

Puffy Knee High Boots at Rick Owens Fall/Winter 2024 Show

So, how are yall doing? I came across these puffy knee high boots checking out the Rick Owens Fall/Winter 2024 show. I would totally wear these, they definitely make a statement. The show really features some futuristic looks that remind me of an upscale Star Wars movie. What do you think, would you wear these boots?

Sequined Ashish Sweatpants and Bright Yellow Pumps for New York Fashion Week

mfkatmbfwmalinda_bedazzled_ashish

With the snow being such a mess and this winter being so cold, I wanted to be comfortable even for New York Fashion Week. I wore my Spring 2014 sequined Ashish sweatpants (NEW SPRING 15 VERSION HERE) and my Michael Kors sweatshirt in a very loose outfit for Nolcha and Hernan Lander shows. I just loved these sweatpants. Want to know why? Well, for one, it is a sweatshirt/sweatpant combo, both super soft and easy to wear! Secondly, sequins just make everything better. Not to mention, they are very big on the Fall 2014 runways. We’ve seen sequins bedazzling the runway from Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Tom Ford and more.

Paired with bright yellow pumps (Saint Laurent $595 or Carvela $167and my grey Alexander Wang handbag, I had fun with this outfit. Pair them with this Ashish sequined tank top or try another bedazzled sweatpant look with this Marc by Marc Jacobs sequined sweatshirt.

Speaking of comfort, have you entered my winter comfort GIVEAWAY? Only a few days left! I am all about being comfortable and stylish in this horrible winter we are having. Don’t forget to enter and check out more photos of my outfit and favorites from the Hernan Lander show below!

This weekend I attended the Samantha Black Spring 2014 Show at Holy Apostles which was sponsored by DivaGalsDaily. Samantha Black was recently on Project Runway and I met her backstage along with a few of the models. I also ran into Basketball Wives star Jennifer Williams who walked in the show, Tami Roman and Elise Neal. Other reality stars such as Emily B. and Ariane Davis came to support as well. See more photos of the fashion show below!

Fishy Business: Goldfish Swim in Handbags for Graduating Designer Cassandra Verity Green

article-2332948-1A0D5BF9000005DC-130_634x935

So Central St. Martin had their annual fashion show to showcase the work of its graduating students. Designer Cassandra Verity Green decided to feature her ‘pet goldfish’ swimming in her handbags on the runway. Now that’s fishy business.

According to the Telegraph UK, The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) absolutely does not approve of the use of living creatures on the catwalk. A spokeswoman for the organization stated: “While we understand that a graduate fashion show is about grabbing attention and headlines, we do have concerns that using a living creature to create a novel or unusual accessory encourages people to see them as replaceable ornaments, rather than living creatures in need of care and commitment.”

Now fashion is an art form and the runway features lots of fashion that never retails. Fashion always seems to strike a nerve, push boundaries and create controversy. But, isn’t that what fashion is supposed to do?

Whether Cassandra meant to retail her goldfish handbags or not, we must admit that it was a creative idea. It is the translation from runway to real way that the RSPCA is concerned with. But I think most of us want our handbags to accommodate items such as cell phones and lipstick, not goldfish.
