Summer Mood and Civil Disobedience

So I’ve been feeling a little disillusioned with the things going on in the world recently. From terrorist attacks to police shootings, racism and even this current political season, it’s all quite overwhelming. Every day we seem to hear about police killing young black men and not facing any consequences. And hateful rhetoric should never be heard from a political candidate. With all this being said, I’ve made my voice heard through peaceful protest and communication with my political representatives. Taking action is the best solution so I put together a little list that may help (if you haven’t done them already).

  1. Register to vote and show up Tuesday, November 8th to your local poll. This is beyond important. People have died and gone through hell just to make sure everyone has the right to vote.
  2. Contact your local politician and make your voices heard.
  3. Sign a petition. There’s a million out there but you can start with the White House.

This is just a start. May love, peace and justice prevail.

Sincerely,

80’s Rewind: Marc Jacobs Resort 2017

03-marc-jacobs-resort-17

Marc Jacobs showed an 80’s rock and roll inspired Resort 2017 Collection this week and I am inspired. Crimped hair, pink metallic and animal prints came down the runway in a show that left me wanting to turn on some 1980s Metallica. I particularly loved the sequined MTV sweatshirt- what a fun collection!

Preorder other Resort 2017 Collections here.

Cuban Dream: Chanel Cruise 2016/17

160504155711-chanel-cuba-new-5-super-169Palm Trees. Sequins. Cigars. Old Cars. It was a Cuban dream at the Chanel Cruise 2016/17 Fashion Show yesterday. Chanel nailed their fashion show by incorporating all things that come to mind when thinking about Cuba but maintained their backbone. There was tweed and beautiful materials of course, but 1950s cars and cigar box handbags.

CHANEL_Cruise_Cuba_Show-54CHANEL_Cruise_Cuba_Show-68I loved it! In Florida, it’s basically resort wear all year long and this show definitely gave me some great inspiration. I definitely want to get over to Cuba one of these days. By the way, if you are in Cuba Karl Lagerfeld is showing more than 200 of his photographs at Factoria Habana until May 12th.

Southern, Sweet Lemonade

IMG_0481

As I take in Beyoncé’s new project Lemonade, I find myself enjoying time in the South as well. South Florida may be tropical but if you really know it, it’s the “dirty South.” Lemonade speaks to me in that it is all about the plight of the black woman working and living in an unjust society. Love, marriage, babies it covers everything about womanhood- especially that of a black woman.

There’s nothing like the South to get you thinking about our nation’s history, the culture and the segregation. Although I’ve been frying conch fritters, I’ve been eating just as many collard greens. And with this new album, I’m just that much more proud to be from the South.

Sincerely,
