tumblr_n0qzasAwFt1rmjndbo1_500

Remember my Madd Hatter post last year? I had so much fun  playing with hats at Ellen Christine’s showroom, I just had to check out the ArtsWestchester HATtitude Exhibit grand opening last weekend. The show was amazing and if you like hats or think you might want to experiment with hats, you absolutely must check it out!

The show is going on until April 12th. Get inspired!

Sincerely,

A Graffiti Chanel Backpack for $3400

Chanel-Spring-2014-Backpack

Grunge. Graffiti. The 1990s. and Chanel? Really. Yes, Chanel has again jumped on the graffiti bandwagon for Spring 2014. It’s an interesting play on colors but for $3400? Label whores who do anything for a label might easily fork over the money for this but I would say if you really want a backpack like this, do it yourself. Make a fun art project out of this at home.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying the creativity, colors and grunginess of it all but I just can’t get with the pricepoint. After seeing those Chanel boots from the F/W 2013 show, I am just not enthralled with the graffiti backpack. Are we wearing backpacks these days anymore anyway?

Kim’s George Condo Hand-Painted Birkin Bag

kanye-west-kim-kardashian-george-condo-hermes-birkin-bag-christmas-gift-2013

So this week Kanye West gave Kim Kardashian a George Condo hand-painted Hermes Birkin bag for Christmas and Kim showed it off on a shopping trip. Condo did the artwork for my favorite Kanye album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. June Ambrose photoshopped a photo of her with a George Condo painted Birkin on Instagram to generate chatter. Needless to say the art world has officially infiltrated fashion. And, well, although I like the provocative artwork on Kanye’s album cover, I can’t say the same about the Birkins. It just doesn’t do it for me. What do you think?

Sincerely,

Seeing Blue: Sequined Shorts and Artwork

malindaknowles5

I finally posted more of my artwork on the blog! Check it out now. More artwork will be coming and prints will be available so make sure to bookmark the ones that you really love!

This past weekend I took photos with my Songs of Freedom painting and got into a ‘blue’ spirit with sequined shorts from English Rose. I got them from Natre, an amazing, moderately priced boutique in Soho (thank you Natre)! Anyway, I just love the shorts. They’re great for a not-so-casual day or girl’s night out. They’re very comfortable too. I paired them with a black silk top and glitzy accessories and a chunky ring.

If you like the big, chunky, ring thing, check these out; 1)McQueen Skull Ring, $318    2) Cavalli Snake Knuckle Duster, $397   3) NastyGal Beetle Ring, $15  4) Mikey Snake Ring, $32

Montauk Beach House Pool Party and Milly Resort 2014 Fashion Presentation

DSC00388

Last weekend I got plenty of sun in the nearly 100 degree weather at the Montauk Beach House. Michelle Smith showed her Milly Resort 2014 Collection in a beautiful fashion presentation by the pool, part of a summer-long music and fashion series hosted by the Montauk Beach House. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and last weekend, I was on the beach or by the pool for 80% of the time!

Singer-songwriter Natalia Kills performed and we enjoyed great drinks and music all Saturday afternoon. I just loved the bright, bold colors in the collection, not to mention that much of it looked really comfortable. Artwork seemed to influence Milly as some of the fabric seemed painted like that on the model above. Crop tops kept cropping up in Milly’s Resort 2014 Collection as well. I don’t think they’re going anywhere.

I wore a pink neon Eres itty-bitty bikini along with an exclusive purple hat from couture milliner Ellen Christine’s Spring 2014 Collection. By the way, if you want a couture hat of your own, she’s giving a 10% discount to blog readers. Just call her showroom and mention the blog.

While there I met a few from the Milly team, spotted some great poolside fashion and ran into Cannon Hodge of Bergdorf Goodman. She and her friend were wearing amazing kaftans from Camilla Franks that should be available at Bergdorfs in a few months. She showed me that this particular kaftan could be tied multiple ways for a causal or dressy look. Looks like it will be available soon at BG for about $500 or so.

Milly’s collection isn’t quite available yet but for some of the looks here, check out my Summer is in the Air Collection or Shopbop’s Best of Summer 2013.

jay-z-picasso-baby-1

Yesterday, Jay-Z was a work of art. Performance art, that is. He performed Picasso Baby and interacted with the crowd for six hours at the Pace Gallery.

Jay-Z raps about his appreciation for the art world. Here’s a snippet of the lyrics;

Sleeping every night next to Mona Lisa
The modern-day version
With better features
Yellow Basquiat in my kitchen corner
Go ahead lean on that **** Blue
You own it

Good times. Check out video here.

Absolut Open Canvas Art Event in Brooklyn

DSC00253

Talk about street art. This past weekend I stopped by the Absolut Vodka Open Canvas Event in Williamsburg, Brooklyn where artists Olek, Katsu and others transformed a whole street into an art display. Ice sculptures, knitted bikes, and graffiti filled the street and it was kind of amazing.

It was also really hot outside! Summer finally hit New York and I stayed cool in a white bustier, a white lace skirt and jewelry from various places including I-Ella’s List and Lea Jefferson. Absolut Vodka stirred up some great cocktails and I was able to meet Olek and her friend, the first person I’ve ever spotted wearing the new Google glasses! Check out more photos from the event below.

Opening Reception at the Milk Gallery for Jonathan Mannion’s Rough Around The Edges Polaroid Photography Exhibit

MannionPhotography_KanyeWest_malindaknowlesnet

This week I stopped by the Milk Gallery for Jonathan Mannion’s Rough Around the Edges Photography Exhibit Opening Reception. Mannion is most known for his iconic Hip Hop photography: the portraits of DMX covered in blood for “Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood,” Ludacris’ “Back For the First Time” album cover, Jay Z’s “Reasonable Doubt,” Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Ni**a Please,” and more. Amazingly, his work was done with a Polaroid camera.

The DJ was absolutely amazing and kept the crowd rocking while the crowd sipped to Ciroc cocktails and Red Stripe beer. The crowd was also decked out in their most fashionable summertime party gear and I met a few interesting people. Model Stevie Finedore (pictured below) wore a black and white dress, I saw lots of cutouts and crop tops, and other summer essentials like maxi dressesrompers and printed pants. Check out photos of what they wore and more of Mannion’s photography below. The exhibit is on until July 9th so check it out!
