Sara Battaglia Spring 2018 Sequined Skirt

So sequins have been in for a while now (hello Ashish) and they’re definitely big for this spring. Sequins can be dressed up or down depending on what you pair them with. This Sara Battaglia skirt caught my eye. I’m just a sucker for sequins. Throw it on with a sweatshirt or t-shirt and some sneakers like the photo above and boom, you have a casual look with some major pizzaz. If you love it like I do, hurry up because there’s only a few left!

Bright Red on the Runway for New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2018

Oscar de la Renta

The New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2018 Collections have featured many bright colors, especially bright red. It seems that every designer this season has some kind of red in their collection. I guess it’s time to refresh that black and grey that we always have in our fall/winter wardrobes and spice it up with some color. Check out more of these bright red designs below.

African Royalty on the Purple Carpet at The Black Panther Premiere

So I dreamed that I was in the land of Wakanda last night after getting excited about the new Black Panther movie. I had a home with corn fields and was the happiest woman ever! Anyway, last night Black Panther premiered in Hollywood and the fashion on the purple carpet was absolutely amazing. As a black woman I’m incredibly excited about this movie and can’t wait to see it.

I rarely talk about celebrities but I just had to mention some of the fashion on the purple carpet last night. Musicians Chloe and Halle were in attendance wearing Elisabetta Franchi while actress Lupita Nyong’o looked like African royalty wearing an Atelier Versace dress. Janeshia Adams-Ginyard stunned in a head to toe African inspired crop top, skirt and hat by Tamara Cobus while Angela Bassett wore a canary yellow Naeem Khan jumpsuit.

DezignNation Struts Miami Drive-In Fashion Show

I recently attended the Struts Miami Fashion Show by DezignNation (founded by Aguy Smith) and was completely blown away by Project Runway finalist Laurence Basse’s designs as well as a few other local designers. I had never been to a ‘drive-in’ fashion show but it was actually kind of convenient because it was cool in Florida that night.

I wore my Catherine Malandrino leather pants (similar below), a Club Monaco sweater and my Steve Madden sneaker heels. The show was in a parking garage and featured designs from House of Roxy B., Over a Trillion Served and more. They also had wine and pies from Pink Pie available at the show as well.

My Grandma’s Christmas Bacardi Rum Cake

In honor of my late grandmother, I’m baking several Bacardi rum cakes this year for family and friends. I didn’t forget about myself, I’m also going to bake one for the house. Rum cake is absolutely delicious and one thing you can do is pour rum itself on the cake after its finished just to make it a drunk cake! I’ve been told this is a Caribbean thing but I do have family from the Bahamas.

Anyway, bake one of these for the Holidays and enjoy!

Ingredients

Cake:

1 18 1/2 oz. package yellow cake mix

1 3/4 oz. package Jell-O Vanilla Instant Pudding and Pie Filling

1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

4 eggs

1/2 cup cold water

1/2 cup Wesson Oil

1/2 cup Bacardi rum

Glaze:

1/4 lb. butter

1/4 cup water

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup Bacardi rum

Directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour 10″ tube or 12-cup Bundt pan. Sprinkle nuts over bottom of the pan. Mix all cake ingredients together and pour batter over nuts. Bake one hour. Cool. Invert on serving plate. Prick the top with a fork or toothpick. Drizzle and smooth glaze evenly over top and sides. Allow cake to absorb glaze. Repeat until all the glaze is used.

Glaze: Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in water and sugar. Boil five minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in rum.

Sincerely,

“Fashionably-Late”
