The Fashion at Inauguration Day 2021

So I just had to take another look at all of the beautiful fashion on display at Joe Biden’s Inauguration Day ceremony. Michelle Obama looks absolutely amazing in Sergio Hudson, a Black designer from South Carolina. Dr. Jill Biden wore an ocean-blue wool tweed coat over a dress by American designer Alexandra O’Neill of the Markarian label. And, Vice President Kamala Harris wore a purple outfit by a young black designer Christopher John Rogers.

Jennifer Lopez sang in a Chanel number and Lady Gaga stunned in a gorgeous Schiaparelli design. Lastly, a young poet laureate Amanda Gorman wore a yellow Prada coat. It was a moment that will go down in history. Congratulations to Vice President Kamala Harris and President Biden!

Michelle Obama’s Narciso Rodriguez Dress at Last Night’s State of The Union Address

So, like it or not, Barack Obama is now in his last year of office and delivered his final State of The Union address last night. While you might debate about the politics, you must admit (again) that Michelle Obama is one of the fiercest first ladies we’ve ever had. I mean, she is a huge fashion force and well, did you see her marigold Narciso Rodriguez dress last night?

It’s the perfect color for a mid-winter pick me up and it is a really versatile dress. I mean, you could really wear that to an office meeting, church or even brunch.

Sequined Dresses and Michelle Obama Best Picture Pick Surprise at Oscars

How fabulous is Michelle Obama and what can’t she do? Whether you like her, President Obama or not, you must admit that she is fabulous. Constantly hitting us with some serious swag and fashion! As underwhelmed as I was by the show and its horrible host Seth MacFarlane, Michelle Obama gave us a surprise debut at the end, announcing Best Picture winner Argo. On trend with many other sequined dresses last night, Michelle wore a sequined silver number by Naeem Khan.

She looked amazing in the sequined dress right along with Naomi Watts and Adele.

Do Color in the Winter: Harlem Fashion Row Fall/Winter 2013 Collective Fashion Show

This week I attended Harlem Fashion Row’s sixth annual Fall/Winter Fashion Show at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Well, it was quite the event with everyone from Nana Meriweather, Tatijiana Shoan, editor-in-chief of As If Magazine, Bevy Smith, Tyson Beckford and more in attendance. Above looks from designers Chantell Walters and Kimberly Goldson, finalist from Project Runway.

For those that don’t know Harlem Fashion Row is a company that supports emerging African-American designers and perhaps me sometime soon. This was their very first Fall/Winter show and I applaud Brandice Henderson and the designers for their hard work.

My favorite collection is kind of a toss between the first and the last. The first collection by Deidre Jefferies featured great ready to wear in mostly black, grey or bright yellow. It was funny to see because that’s exactly what I was wearing; a bright yellow dress, black blazer and grey coat. Even though black is New York’s most chic color, I am definitely not afraid of color in the winter.

The last collection by Kimberly Goldson featured some amazing, unique and beautiful pieces. She is a former Project Runway star and said she was inspired by Michelle Obama. Wanted for all of us to “see ourselves in the clothes.” Well, I did Kimberly, and I am leaning towards being most excited about your collection.

The show also featured a menswear line by Sandro Romans with very interesting headwear. One of the models told me that they actually wore a scarf around their head with a hat pinned to the top. Creative, I thought.

Michelle, Sasha and Malia Obama’s Inauguration Day Fashion

So are we all not excited to see what Michelle Obama, most powerful woman in fashion, will be wearing this weekend?

She recently changed her hairstyle and I love it. And I think we all just can’t wait to see the fashion this weekend!

In 2009, Michelle Obama wore a lemongrass yellow Isabel Toledo shift dress for the day, and a gorgeous white off-the-shoulder chiffon gown by Jason Wu for the ball. WWD says that more than 20 designers have sent in dress sketches in hopes to be chosen to dress her for the momentous occasion.

I can’t wait to see the looks for her and Sasha and Malia, who are quickly becoming style icons too. Check out a few of the fashion sketches from Chanel, Nanette Lepore, L’Wren Scott, and Monique Lhuillier for Michelle, Sasha and Malia for Inaugural Day below.

Michelle Obama: Fashion Icon, A Tribute To The Last Four Years of Style

Greetings folks!

Today is election day and I hope each and every one of you goes out and votes! Whether by email, going to the poll or finding an “army” truck in NJ to make it happen- just make sure you vote today!

I’d like to pay a tribute to the last four years of Michelle Obama’s style. It seems that we haven’t paid this much attention to what our First Lady is wearing since Jackie Kennedy Onassis was in the White House!

Our economy was a sinking ship before Obama took office and it has seemed to stabilize a bit with GDP and the DJIA up a bit since the market crash of 2009. However, things are still pretty rough.

According to the Harvard Business Review, Professor David Yermack of NYU’s Stern School found that following public appearances between 2008-2009, Michelle Obama created $2.7 billion in cumulative abnormal returns for fashion and retail companies associated with what she wore.

Professor Yermack also states brands chosen by Obama gain about 2.3% in value which by the way, is more than Sarah Jessica Parker at about .5%.
