So it’s official ladies and gentleman! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have gotten married y’all! And it was a royal wedding with a Black American twist all the way from Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir to Michael Curry to Sheku Kanneh-Mason! It was definitely not lost on us that Meghan Markle, the new Duchess of Sussex, is African-American. In any case, Meghan Markle wore Givenchy for her big day along with the Order of Splendor tiara loaned by the Queen. I have to say I was a little bit underwhelmed by her choice of dress but I guess she had to keep it conservative. I must say though the cut on the dress was perfection. It fit Meghan’s frame perfectly. Here’s to the new couple!
Happy Monday everyone! Last week the Fashion Institute of Technology Future of Fashion Show took the runway in the Garment District and what great looks. I picked five of my favorites, a few of which received awards. Stacy Isaacs was a Critic Award Winner and Chaya Hoffman’s beautiful dress was the People’s Choice Award Winner. All of these looks definitely make a statement and can be rocked off the runway too. Check out more below. Which is your favorite?
Happy Saturday! I enjoyed wearing this For Love and LemonsTati Lace Ruffle Dress in the sun in Palm Beach recently. I also loved wearing my new Steve Madden Camille Sandals along with it. Chanel sent several models down the runway for Spring 2018 with plastic shoes, handbags and even raincoats. So, I wanted to try the spring trend and these clear sandals go with almost everything! Anyway, check out more of the outfit below and enjoy the weekend!
So while in Palm Beach the other day I stumbled upon a fabulous little shopping center where Kirna Zabete has recently opened a store. I’m a big fan of Kirna Zabete from seeing their stores in New York. One thing I have to say is that Palm Beach knows how to do landscaping. The flowers and plants in this little shopping center were gorgeous.
Anyway, I love wearing this vintage Theory dress on a sunny Florida day. They go perfectly with these white BaubleBar earrings (similar below) and my vintage Tom Ford zebra heels. The dress also does well with my white Proenza Schouler handbag which has been a gem this spring. Check out more photos below!
It was storming here yesterday. It rained cats and dogs. And from what I hear it is still snowing/slushing in some parts of the North. Well, you know what they say. April showers bring May flowers. And one of my favorite flowers are tulips. People sleep on tulips! But they are so pretty.
Anyway Spring usually promises a lot of rain. Do you have a raincoat? If not or if you just want a new one, check out these cute ones below from Vetements, Proenza Schouler and Moncler.
Happy Spring! Although it may not feel like spring everywhere, I welcome the season. Believe it or not it gets a little chilly in Florida when it’s cold up north. This long-sleeved House of Holland dress is perfect for that in between weather. I paired it with my Steve Madden sneaker heels for a downtown city look.
While some are dealing with snow, I’ve been enjoying sunny South Florida. While there is definitely not as much to do as New York (and I definitely miss the city sometimes), I welcome the change of pace. Palm Beach is really beautiful and there’s nothing like a good t-shirt and jeans combo when to hang around town. I saw this Gucci Mystic Cat T-shirt on Farfetch and the sequined cat just got me. I absolutely love this shirt and they go great with my Zararipped jeans(similar here) and blue Marc Jacobs handbag. The shirt is actually sold out but there’s several other cute ones.
I also wore this interlaced Gucci ring that I adore as well- a pineapple, a monkey and an emerald. Check out photos of the ring and more below and if you’re up north, consider a trip to sunny Florida for a break!
So sequins have been in for a while now (hello Ashish) and they’re definitely big for this spring. Sequins can be dressed up or down depending on what you pair them with. This Sara Battaglia skirt caught my eye. I’m just a sucker for sequins. Throw it on with a sweatshirt or t-shirt and some sneakers like the photo above and boom, you have a casual look with some major pizzaz. If you love it like I do, hurry up because there’s only a few left!
The New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2018 Collections have featured many bright colors, especially bright red. It seems that every designer this season has some kind of red in their collection. I guess it’s time to refresh that black and grey that we always have in our fall/winter wardrobes and spice it up with some color. Check out more of these bright red designs below.
So I dreamed that I was in the land of Wakanda last night after getting excited about the new Black Panther movie. I had a home with corn fields and was the happiest woman ever! Anyway, last night Black Panther premiered in Hollywood and the fashion on the purple carpet was absolutely amazing. As a black woman I’m incredibly excited about this movie and can’t wait to see it.
I rarely talk about celebrities but I just had to mention some of the fashion on the purple carpet last night. Musicians Chloe and Halle were in attendance wearing Elisabetta Franchi while actress Lupita Nyong’o looked like African royalty wearing an Atelier Versace dress. Janeshia Adams-Ginyard stunned in a head to toe African inspired crop top, skirt and hat by Tamara Cobus while Angela Bassett wore a canary yellow Naeem Khan jumpsuit.
